because it's not....the x is the cross turned sideways..look in the bible ...it's not disrespectful

its just a shortened way of saying christmas. and youre right about the x. it represents the cross. people are too sensitive. i dont think god would want us fighting over something like this. so if youre religious and see someone saying xmas instead of fighting just express to the person how you feel. and vise versa.

No. X has been a valid image for Christ for over 1000 years, and continues to be a valid abbreviation. As reported, it relatively is the 1st Greek letter of Christ's call. yuletide would not take the Christ out of Christmas in any respect.

i never used to, then recently someone told me its crossing Christ out of Christmas. but what ur saying about the cross makes sense too

It's not disrespectful nor is it Christmas shortened. The letter X is greek for the first letter of Christ. I just read it in the paper, but I'm sure if you check with your reference librarian, they can guide you to the correct answer.

As a Christian, I personally don't like to write "Xmas", just because it feels disrespectful to turn my Lord's birthday into shorthand. It's just a respect thing to write it out in full. Sure, the x is a cross turned sideways, but that's not a good enough reason for me.

Yes,I think it is VERY disrespectful.It's called Christmas,why do people always try to take God and Jesus out of our lives?It's just wrong!And no the x turned sideways does not look like a cross.
