to protect his client the defendant which is facing the charge.
And to undermine whatever the district attorney is proposing to the jury and the judge!!!
So basically to fight for his client and prove that his client is innocent.

The Defense Attorney's role is to provide argument in the defense of the Defendant, which is the person being accused of a crime. The defense attorney's job is to raise a reasonable doubt that the person did not commit the crime.

Actually, it's the police involved in the criminals trail. The defense attorney doesn't get involved until the criminal is caught and he has a trial.

make sure the defendant has due process and non of his/her constitutional rights were violated. many people get confused, b/c they believe the defense attorney is to get the defendant off the hook, but that is clearly not true

If it is a private defense attorney, he is to represent his client and prove his innocence. If it is a public defender, he is there to sign the papers when is client is found guilty.

To make sure the person that is accused of a crime is given "Due Process"....
Due process means that he deserves to tell a jury "His" side of the story, allow witnesses to corroborate his story, and a chance to rebuttal the prosecutors allegations.
