take it to your bank and cash it
they'll soon let you know if it's a fraud

You didn't get it from me! Did you sell someone something? Do they want you to cash it and send some back via Western Union? It's a scam, just throw it in the trash. Nobody is going to send you an unexpected check for that much!
Hint: Bank of America check numbers are longer than that.
Do NOT deposit it to your account! It will bounce in a couple of weeks, and you will have to make up the value of the check from YOUR pocket. Plus bank fees.
Bring it to the nearest B of A branch and they can check its authenticity pretty quickly. Be sure to tell them the circumstances that you received it under, however.
