I'm thinking it's probably becoming really common these days for OB groups to rotate patients. I've been to my OB 3 times and have seen 3 different doctors. They tell me I should see every doctor (there are about 8) at least once because one of them will deliver my baby. I find this annoying. Anyone else feel like this? Are there still traditional practices out there that do not do this?

With my first 3 I had the same doctor and never saw a different one. Until I delivered #3. Then my doctor was out of town. Now with #4 I am seeing a new doctor and I see HER every time I go in. Not any other doctors. I think if you don't like it why don't you look into changing doctors? I think it is important to be VERY comfortable with your doctor so you can ask him/her any questions you may have and because they know you better than they can even detail in your chart. Just a suggestion. Good luck

Oh and also... having the other doctor deliver (I also had to deal with all the on call doctors during my hospital stay) was fine. I was just glad that someone with training was there to catch. LOL

Yes, there are indeed doctors who don't have a rotating system but there is no guarantee that your doctor will be available to deliver your baby, They are usually busy elsewhere, or have just gone off duty. Its better to at leat have met the doctor who will be attending your delivery. However, even a rotating team system can't guarantee that you will get one of them to deliver your baby. I was guaranteed one of the rotating high risk doctors would deliver my baby, but when the time came every doctor in the hospital (and it was a large one)and resident was busy with other births, I actually had a 4th year med student deliver my baby. Thank God it wasn't my first child!

Yes! This annoyed the hell out of me! I'm sorry but if you are going to pay a practice as much money as it costs to have a baby, you should at least be given the peice of mind that the Doctor that delivers that baby will be the one you've come to know so well through out the pregnancy. I did end up getting "my" doctor at delivery but my friend wasn't so lucky and ended up with a male doctor that had very little knowledge about her. She had specifically sought out a female doctor in the beganning because she knew she would feel more at ease in labor if she was female (she had abusive past experiances with men). She was so uneasy that she couldn't get her pushing and breathing synchronized and ended up in the O.R. for a c-section!
