my 2000 Chevy Express 1500 vans left rear brake light operates normally until the brake is applied while the running lights are on-the middle bulb serving the brake light goes out, the running light continues to burn. The right rear lights operate normally always. Ive replaced bulbs, checked fuses-all good. Swapped bulbs from right to left-no change. Havent observed any physical damage to wiring I can see. Im out of ideas and cannot renew my inspection sticker until the lights work.

You have lost the ground connection to that lamp assembly. With the wiring in this condition, the brake light uses the ground circuit of the lamp to find a ground from another lamp source. When the tail lamps are illuminated, that ground circuit is lost. Inspect and repair all of the wiring to tha affected lamp assembly

Good Luck and Merry Christmas
