I think that there are three different types of love. There is unconditoinal family love, love between friends and romantic love. The unconditional family love is something that will exist no matter what happens between the family members because there will always be a connection. The friend love is when you care about a friend very much and are willing to make sacrifices to help them out. And lastly, romantic love is the kind of love you find when the person is your best friend and you care about them more than any other single person in the world. You always want the best for them. If it is real romantic love it will last a lifetime.

After almost 30 years of believing it to be devotion, passion and a reason for living, my studies have brought me to the conclusion that love is the life force energy that exists in all things. When you understand this, then love does not come with any human rules or limits because it just IS. It is an endless resource, it can never run out.

When we feel deep love for someone, we are allowing ourselves to acknowledge this energy but our social conditioning makes us feel too vulnerable to be able to tap into it whole heartedly. We put expectations on the other and expect them to fill the voids in our lives, which doesn't work because only you can fill your own voids. This is the natural order of things.

Love is not a thing to bargain with, a thing to give or withhold as your ego wills. It wants to flow and create, and holding it back causes all sorts of blockages in your spirit.

Take your example from the trees who withhold their fruit from no one, because they know that to do so would mean their end. This is the natural order of things.

Love is when you see the other person, and you know that you would do anything just to make them happy. When even if you are upset, their smile makes everything better. It's not so much definable, as a state of being. It's wanting to hold their hand, just so you can touch them, and a complete feeling of bliss.

Someone who will get up at 2 in the morning to come to my work place and drive me across the street to my car when it's raining. When he has to get up at 5 to go to work---that's love
and miss a day of his hunting trip to hold my hand at the dentist office.

I think love is first and foremost a form of sacrifice because to get or to please the one you love you have to give away loads of other things; love means giving and not expecting anything in return, unlike what many people think, love is no compromise!
