Generally to hide something one has done or feels inadequate/guilty about ....
(Adam and Eve discovered shame in their nakedness and disobedience after eating the apple, so they hid from God and lied.)

Most people lie to get out of trouble or because they think the stuff they tell others will make them like them better. If they do it often, they get addicted to it, and pretty much cant stop

they think that works for them. they are afraid of the truth. they would rather lie than to face the truth head on. anyone can lie, but it takes an honest person to tell the truth, be it bad or good.

Well "frog" pretty-much nailed it. I was simply thinking "fear", but that's probably too general. Insecurity is bottom line. It may be fear of many individual situations, based on what anothers response may be to a particular statement. Rather a combination of the above. (Does that make any sense at all, I'm confusing myself.)

cause they are scared they might get in trouble or think people will laugh or they want people to think they are cool from what they lied about.Also they think you are not going to find out.Thats why.
