I have a few CDs with "ghost tracks" on them ... about 5 minutes after the end of the last track, something else "kicks" in....

there is one on one of Robbies CDs where he has a go at his teacher, one on the end of the "White Flag" album by Dido...

we would have seen it on vinyl, now it is hidden.

Why do you think that artists do them... ?? Most people would change the CD at the end and never hear them......

serious question :-)

They are part of the collection known as easter eggs. You will find hidden things on movie DVDs and video games too. Maybe they think it would be cool. Tool's Undertow has a couple of them. One is a short story about a killer and the other one is a short preach complete with a song.

I remember this one hidden track on a Nine Inch Nails album, Broken. I left my CD player running and it suddenly kicked in. That one was cool though, it kept running silent until track 98 or 99, and I think there were two hidden songs at the end. Scared me the first time it played though.

I think they do it for a surprise, maybe for hype?

I know though that sometimes the hidden tracks end up being the best songs. Like from Staind's album, their first major album... can't remember the title. That hidden track, known as "Excess Baggage" was my favorite song on the album. So, all and all it's a good thing.

To annoy us?? Because they think it's cool to have 'hidden tracks'??

Dont know but it's very annoying if there is a really loooonnng gap. I have Jarvis Cocker's (Pulp) new album and there is nearly a 30 minute gap on the last track before the ghost track.
