I think that back then, people actually appreciated the spirit of Christmas
it wasnt just a time of gifts, but a time of Hope and coming together to celebrate
Now, it seems all about money
as the generations go on, the idea of christmas changes
so today, the image of christmas is different than it was back then
thats just society today
sadly, the true meaning of christmas seems to be slipping away from people's minds

In my opinion it has to do with Greed. the stores want more money coming in and will do almost anything to sell to the consumer, then we have people out there who want everything and people are willing to put themselves into debt to buy something NEW and Improved (meaning lots of $ paid) people think if 'I pay more it will mean more'. In the 'old days' people gave things that were homemade and put time and care into the items they made and gave away.

commercialism!!! I get so disgusted every year, it seems like a huge contest to see who can spend the most money.
