ummm... the top of your ear.. i'm assuming that's the cartilage.. right? (like.. the harder part of your ear)

i know for certain people, getting a cartilage piercing can really hurt and for other it doesn't. but just to let you know... that part of your ear is not really meant for piercing. like.. not that it's not acceptible in society or something.. but on your body... the only place that's really best fit for a piercing is your ear lobe (the soft bottom part of the ear). that's the only sure place that won't reject a piercing (actually.. our bodies were not technically made to be pierced period.. so i can't guarantee that your earlobe will not reject a piercing)

just be real careful and make sure you go to a place that has certified people that know what they're doing when piercing your ear or any part of your body. i have a friend who got a piercing up in the cartilage and after 2 years of nothing happening his body suddenly rejected the piercing and now there's this huge lump on his upper ear. his doctor had to refer him to a plastic surgeon to get that lump off.

not trying to scare you or anything.. but stating what i know and what i see. and also just think about the future and whether you'd still want a piercing there after 20 years. remember that cartilage piercings don't close up because it's bone... whereas piercings in the earlobe closes up because it's flesh.

Mine hurt like no tomorrow. Not sure if they hit a nerve, or what, but I left it in for 5 months(cleaned it carefully and all that good stuff, never got infected thank God) and then couldn't stand the constant pain anymore. That was over 5 years ago and I can still feel where they pierced my upper ear. I'm not a whiny girl either, I've got my ears pierced 7 times, so I didn't think it would be that big of a deal.
My mother had her upper ear pierced at roughly the same time and never had a problem, still wears her earring. Good luck with your decision!

I got my ear-pierced 2-years ago. It didn't hurt to get the cartilage pierced. It hurt the whole week right after but they told me to mix sea-salt and warm water to ease the pain.

I wasn't too good at taking care of it and so of course my ear got infected so I took the piercing out.

Many Tattoo -shops are really good at piercing ears and odd places so check them out. Don't go to a jewelry shop they will charge you a bunch IF they can do it because they use guns and its not a good idea to use a piercing-gun for that type of piercing.

Good Luck

Depends on the person. For me, it didn't hurt to get, to sleep on, or after. For others each or all of those things were painful. The pain will eventually subside if you end up being in that camp, just take good care of it so that it doesn't get infected. As something different than the regular upper ear cartilidge piercing, you could get some of the cartilidge pierced inside of your ear. I think it's called a conch. I had one but just took it out...I was tired of it and I'm currently interviewing for professional jobs.

not too much, starts hurting after a couple hours
I pierced my ears myself and a lot of my friends
every time you answer the phone you'll say OOOW
the best place? I did it in my apartment
just take a diaper pin and straighten it out, and sterilize it
cut a potato in half to hold behind your ear, stick the pin through your ear into the potato, twist the pin around until it doesn't stick, then very quickly put a straight earring in the hole, don't change it to a hoop until its not sore anymore, there was one girl who got one of her piercings done with a gun, it was extremely painful and left the hole way to big

no it's not bad just make sure you go to a good piercing place. Don't get it pierced with a gun. That will really hurt your ear. Get it done at a good place that uses needles and it wont hurt that bad.

It hurts greater than lobe when you consider that of the cartilage this means that it additionally takes plenty longer to heal. But be warned, do NOT have it performed with a gun, you must best be pierced with sterilised cannula needles in a official studio.
