Broadband is what DSL is now there is also cable & FIOS which claim to be faster but every dog brags about it's tail!

It depends on where you live. If you live in a very rural area (farm land, etc.) most likely you are not on a close local loop and your DSL data rates will be lower because of the distance from your house to the closest digital facility. Since the digital signal has to travel further both the downstream/upstream transfer rates will decrease. Conversely cable modems use shared bandwidth (DSL is a direct connection to the digital facility) so if everyone in your neighborhood is on the Internet in the evenings your data rates will be effected. Both technologies have advantages and disadvantages to the other.

Both are pretty fast for the majority of home/personal users.
If you are a business, you may want to go to T-1 or even T-3.
You may be better off examining your PC or laptop to ensure there are no background programs running that will slow down your machine. Even the fastest PC can be real slow if there is a lot of garbage running in the background.

I have dsl and it is faster than all of my friends' broadband connections, but sometimes it depends on location.

dsl is broadband......Right now fios is the king, and in some locations cable internet is faster than dsl.
