Because it "suits" their ignorance.

In other words, they don't have to think. If they stopped to think, "wow, I don't think I could CHANGE my sexuality," then they would have to realize that we cannot either. This is unacceptable to them, because then the hate would not come as easy.

I don't think anyone does. I mean I tried choosing to be straight because I felt that's what my family wanted and because it was what society expected from me. I was completely miserable and eventually felt like a huge fraud. It isn't a choice as apparently being heterosexual is not a choice. Its a natural feeling and drive. I'm out now and completely happy with who I am. As for the general, I think people rather think that people choose to be gay so that it is easier for them to bash and put down...after all, some people who are otherwise not racist or prejudice have no problems bashing on the gay because they have been programmed to believe that it is a choice.

Because they are ignorant and probably religious is the reason someone would think of being gay as a choice.

No one would choose a marginal life filled with hate and persecution.

I have several gay friends who have over-come circumstances, family rejection, beatings and humiliation, simply to come to terms with what life has dealt them. Several kids when I was growing up killed themselves rather than live with being hated and torment.

It is so sad, that as a society we have not learned by now to accept each other.

Religion plays a huge part in this.

In a way i did choose my lifestyle. I could have stayed in the closet and kept pretending to be someone im not. I could've continued to play the role of a happy straight woman. People do it ALL the time. But i would have been miserable. Therefore, I CHOSE to come out & be truthful to friends, family & to myself. I dont really give 2 s.hits about society anymore and what they have to think. I dont feel persecuted at all. I feel like people are ignorant to what they do not understand, so that's a fault on them, not me. And im the happiest NOW than what i have ever been in life because i am living life for ME.

People that are ignorant to what it is to be gay think those things. Unfortunately alot of ppl think they know what it is to be gay but they don't know what we go through. Why would we chose this life? It is so hard? If someone is chosing to be gay then they got issues because why would you want to be constantly questions, talked about, and not excepted if you didn't have to be. I love who I am and I am proud to be gay. It took me a long time to get to where I am and you know what those who feel we chose it can keep on thinking it. They just jealous because they don't have the balls to come out to everyone. Love who you are and don't worry about who thinks what.

Lots of people have had at least thoughts of being gay, but when you act on those thoughts and feelings, then you choose to be gay.

I am not gay so I really wouldn't know...but I wouldn't think that you choose it.. Isn't it just the way it is? The same as it would be if you were not gay. Not a choice.. but a feeling?

Lol. No one chooses their sexuality. God made us the way we are. Not to be gay if you are born gay is going against the will and plan of God.

A lot of people are simply religiously indoctrinated simpletons who can't handle the real world, which does not fall lock-step into their superstitious, cultist worldview. Others are small minded and ignorant straight folks who can't imagine anything outside the narrow perspective of their own experience.
