I'm wondering if there is a possibility I can swap the engine from my 1996 Grand Am GT (it already has a 3.1L V6), if so, tell me what I can put in it, or if it isn't worth doing.

Sure you can do it. But you have not given enough information for us to answer the question. Why do you want to change it? What would you like to change it with? Is there something wrong with the one that is in it? With out more information we have no idea if it would be worth doing it or not. I just love it when people post here and want to make it a big secret and give as little information as possible about what they want to do. All it does is make us give improper information.

To go fast, who needs another reason. You can change the engine on any car as long as it fits and you have the proper engine mounts.
If you want something really different, a 2JZ twin turbo would make you car rare and unstoppable on the track. Also look at getting an RB20 (Skyline) engine from Japan. If you are looking for speed, that is the way to go. Budget for at least $6K.

If it is running and not burning oil why fix what ain't broke---bestthing is to leave the engine in place and drive the AM ......if you want a fast car then go and get a mustang or a hot machine that is built to run______and don't don't waste any more $$$ on the PONTIAC

well, i had a 94 sunbird with that 3.1 and a 89 olds cutlass cierra with the 2.8 thay made the sunbird, beretta, cavalier, corsica, and others all with the 3.1 and the cavalier and olds cutlass cierra with the 2.8 witch will bolt right in. the lumina im not 100 percent about.
