My partner comes in and within minutes he's switched it on and he's away in his "other" world. He talks loud, shouts, swears, gets really p!ssed off, ignores me and our three kids. then has the cheek to wonder why the kids never go to him for cuddles and other stuff. he will sit playing it until 6-7 in the morning. then sleeps all day because he's tired. it's really starting to get to me and i was wondering if anyone else has the same problem or if anyone else feels the same?
please let me know because if it's just me then i think i'm gonna go crazy!

"Add Playstation and Wii and I think you've got it covered." -My long-suffering wife.

It's a respect issue; guys (in my experience) tend to obsess over new toys...which is half the fun...but there comes a time when it hurts a relationship, and a mature guy should know when to draw the line, get off the computer, and...um...NO! YAHOO ANSWERS ISN'T MY MISTRESS! I'M SORRY! WAUGH!

Smash it to pieces...I would. In fact, I will for a small fee. The sort of expensive, addictive, time-consuming pointlessness Xboxes and all that other crap embody is designed to destroy human relationships and create emotional dependency and physical sloth. It's a crying shame so many people like your partner are too f*cking thick to see that. It isn't a political conspiracy...it's a commercial one. Anyone ever read Brave New World these days? It's all in there. Very best of luck to you and your kids.

oh, no it's not just you. i have this rule that i won't date gamers. it's ridiculous. i have absolutely no patience for a guy who will sit in front of a TV screen and play video games for hours on end. they lose total focus of the world around them.

don't bother.

there are so many amazing guys who would rather go to a movie with you or a museum or a concert than sit at home and ignore you and play videogames.

this douchebag obviously doesn't have his priorities straight. he's totally living in his videogame dreamworld.

take it away from him. if he's going to act like a kid and play kid games, treat him like you would his three children. it is absolutely ridiculous and he has an unhealthy addiction.

do not put up with this if he is putting your marriage and kids at jeopardy. your children deserve a father, and you have an obligation as a mother to step in. if he is so involved in his videogames that he is not spending time with his children, this is a serious issue. (it is the same as a parent who spends too much time at the bar, is never home, or emotionally neglects his children)

if confronting him doesn't do anything, get a family counselor involved. totally uncalled for and i can't believe it. what a shame.

My hubby is the exact same way, and I like it. That way the kids and I can do our own thing without having their anal-retentive dad buggin' the h*ll out of us. Although, he's not on til 6 in the morning. 12 or 1 at the latest. Of course he has been known to wake up at 5 in the morning and play straight through. One of these days his butt is gonna permanently become attached to his lazy-boy. Hmmm. Maybe they know each other?

You know, a few hours of game play are fine. Men need space away from family regularly just to detach.

With this said, it should not be taken too far. If it is damaging your relationship you should talk about it. If he doesn't seem to care perhaps you have revealed a flaw in his personality. Having an interest outside of the family is healthy and normal. Having an obsession that hurts the family is destructive.

Sad...is it not...

Looking at the responses...I actually had not realised that it has become such a common problem.

Well...if it was not that...it would be something else...

Take comfort in the knowledge that he is not drinking with his friends in the pub and ogling other women.
