Hi, I am doing a project about banned books and i was wondering if there is anyone out there that knows about books that were banned simply because they were by an african american author. Also if you know any books that were banned just for racial issues in general like use of the n word. Lastly, any good websites about banned books or books about banned books that may also help me. thank you!

There's some stuff here: http://www.ala.org/ala/oif/bannedbooksweek/bbwlinks/100mostfrequently.htm

Look around the website for more info. :)

I know Huckleberry Finn (and probably Tom Sawyer) were banned for containing "the n word". Heart of Darkness is often contested because it contains "the n word" and shows some blacks in a derogatory light.

I'm sure there were more, but they're not very much talked about.

Unfortunately, I don't know if there were any books that were banned simply because the author was black. I can't remember that happening...

It would be good to define what you mean by "banned." I saw a website on "banned books" that listed a lot of people and groups as "book banners," who have no power to prevent people from obtaining or reading a book. Some of them may have decided certain books were unsuitable for a school library, but this doesn't ban the book from readers. And some of them probably just expressed their disapproval of certain books, which is anybody's right.
