Hi there. I am a zoologist specializing in marine mammals (specifically whales and dolphins). For most of the year, I collect research on killer whales. I LOVE my job. I'm outside all day long in a beautiful place and I get to spend hours hanging out with orcas. I wouldn't give it up for the world. I think the only problem with being a zoologist is that it's hard to make a lot of money (but if you love the work, who cares?) As for my education, I graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in zoology. They are one of the best schools for animals studies in the US. If you do end up going for a zoology or biology degree, be prepared to work hard! I had to spend many evenings and weekends with my nose in my text books just to learn all the detailed information. Also, if you do decide to study for a zoology degree, get experience with animals!! Volunteer at a local animal shelter or sanctuary and try to get animal-science related interships that will also give you college credit. Hope that helps and good luck! If you really love animals, you won't regret this career choice.

whoa..we have almost the same avatar with the same background and you are lizard gurl and I am bird girl! Freaky! Anyway, I have a degree in zoology and work as a wildlife biologist and specialize in ornithology (birds). I also do some herp work, bat work, and a little bit of plant and fish work. I did a lot of seasonal work to gain hands on experience to be able to get a good job. Make sure while you are still in school you get some field experience as well, as this will really help in getting a job.
