I put the baby in the crib instead of the bassinet. The bassinet is too confining. If you have him in the bassinet I would take him out as soon as I had the crib ready.

My daughter never used a bassinet. She slept in her crib from her 2nd night home. I did that because I wanted to make sure she would be less dependent on having us near her at all times. On the other hand, I had a friend that moved her son to the crib when he was 2weeks old because he started sleeping through the night more at that time.

3 months old, he was just way to big for the bassinet. He also started sleeping longer and better when i moved him to a crib in his own room.

At about two months old we transitioned her from her bassinet to her crib in her room. I think we were both able to sleep better after that! My hubby and I just had a monitor on in our room so that we could hear her if she cried. Transitioning her early into her own room with her own bed helped her be able to figure out how to put herself to sleep as she got older.

3-4 months or wait until you think they have the ability to pull themselves out of the bassinet by grabbing the sides

You can do it right away if you want just as long as the baby is in a safe crib.I had 3 kids and they all went straight to the crib when i bought them home.It gets them used to their bed and then there is no moving them again until they are in a single bed in there toddler years.
