I'm concerned about the rumor I'm hearing that Iran etal. want to convert us to Islam. When and where did it happen? Was it in the 1900's or after.
Any info. will be appreciated.

Dar el Islam. It means "kingdom of peace"; much the way the United States currently wants to "spread" democracy (like butter?) most Muslims would like to see the world in a peaceful kingdom. In China today, they have recently launched a new campaign for a "harmonious world".

See, it depends upon the context. I think all humans want to live together in a peaceful and harmonious world; unfortunately this desire is easily taken advantage of by a small minority of people who want power and control... not peace or harmony, but power and control. They want to be "right" and are clueless to the thought that there may be more than one way to live.

So, radical Islamists, radical communists, radical facists, and radical right-wing Christians all sort of fall into one box -- all competing for the "control" box.

To answer your question, Islamic expansion began AFTER the Christian crusades (wars for control of the middle east). They reached their peak in two periods -- the late middle ages when Islamic countries were the cradle of civilization, science and medicine during which time Persia was a power, and the late 18th century during the Ottoman Empire.

By 1900, the glory days of the Islamic empire were gone.

The usual basis upon which fanatics launch their war of words. Nobody wants to convert you because it is ultimately your choice. I have many muslim firends, I used to be muslim but I gave my religion up because their is much seculiarism in Islam and there are no coersive strategy of conversion. It is merely propaganada and the usual christian conservative rhetoric, the Ottoman empire was only powerful from 1200s to 1500s, and then Muslims were no longer in power. The Muslims Mongols of India rules in for centuries but the majority in India are still hindu which shows that Islam is not a religion of coercion. In fact the Roman Empire forcefully converted all pagans and germanic tribes forecefully to christianity, you dumb little girl go read some history books before coming to fanatic and extreme judgements. It is that fanatism arises from depravation and poverty which is currently plaguing all Muslim and Arab nations because the US continually wishes to support dictators over popular will which results in desperation and eventually fanaticism. Saddam would have never lasted without continuous Us backing and backing of dictators prevents seculiar though and reuslts in the spread of extremitites which are a result of Us foreign policy and not the Islamic religion, and minorities of fanatics exist in all cultures. Looking at your icon you are a African American, and you yourself were a tribe pagan group before Christian European missionaries converted you forcefully.

It's an ongoing thing and has been happening far longer than the US has been around. The Koran states that the nonbelievers must be converted or be killed.

The Crusades, while unfortuntely brutal, were a response to the spread of Islam.

I've read that the Koran forbids forced conversions, but most fanatics only listen to their scripture when it's convenient for them.

Muslims have always wanted to convert us, but they can't make you believe something that you don't believe. Maybe you are afraid that muslims are trying to conquer the world and regardless of what President Bush may tell us that is true. Muslims would use force to conquer the world and force everyone to be muslim if they could do so. That is why we must stay strong and fight against them because islam is a religion of hate and violence and they are very happy to die while they kill us.
