Probably because they watch too many American movies, and like the Americans eventually believe their own propaganda.
As an example "Mel Gibson" a "dwarf policemen" who is invincible and beats up on 3 giants at a time.
The reality is quite different.
The USA in contrast practises the opposite a Giant that beats up on Dwarfs.

You're miles off the mark with that one.
I've got to agree with the above poster. My experience of living there for a few years was excellent. They are very polite, friendly and welcoming people with marvellous hospitality and they know how to party.
Maybe if you could provide us with some information pertaining to your ill-concieved tirade then we may be able to answer the question.
In what way are Australians "cocky"?
What would terrify them so deeply with regards to their armed forces?
In what respect is the Australian Army "a joke"?
and lastly
Give some examples of how Australians "behave like they are kings of the world"

Where were Englands forces when Vietnam was being trashed?. I know i was there with the rest of the abandoned few ,that had stood back to back with our lads in two major wars and a few other conflicts, the politcians conveniently like yourself care to forget. I watched the para's from the now elite W.A.s regiment carrying 75 lbs packs and a full compliment of firearms arms stumble along Cottesloe Beach in North Fremantle in midday sunshine that could top 150 f at midday. (1965) Just for comparison the so called elite Russian troupe trained the same week at the same spot and dropped like flies. I can only presume that you have never ever been in combat backed by the Aussies, for if you had you would never have posted this ill begotten remark, they are the bravest most caring troops you could ever wish to be in battle with, I will not idly stand by whilst you demean the valour of these valiant young lads who over three generations have given us their very best , you need educating before you post such stupid remarks you thicko' , Delta Bravo, Phd.

I've met many Australians and haven't known one who fit your description! I think you need to grow up a bit more as even your name proves you still see things in Black and White. Nothing in life is as you would realise if you thought about things more!
Do you have a knowledge of the Australian Military that no-one else has! All the ones my Hubby and I knew were as well trained as our own! If anything I'd say Australians enjoy travelling and try to learn about the culture wherever they go! Unlike a lot of Brits I know!
Maybe you should post in the correct forum! Answers has a Military section.

The Australian Army is and always has been made up of some of the bravest and most courageous soldiers we have ever had in our Commonwealth.
