If IP addresses range from 0-255.0-255.0-255.0-255 does that mean that 4,294,967,296 people can be on at one time?

One IP address can be shared by hundreds of users at the same time.... especially on high bandwidth lines like T3s & higher.

So the answer is :

" Everyone on the planet & then some."
(for many many years to some)

Actually only if each person has a static IP connected directly to the internet. I have one IP address, but I use a router to allow 13 computers to access the internet at the same time with the same gateway IP address. My router can support 253 computer or devices through one connection.

I think it is an infinite number. If not, billions. There are probably that many on it right now.
