I went the next day once because my friends told me they won't give you anethesia if you've been drinking. The ER doc told me I cut it close and 24 hrs. is the general rule. Interesting side note: I have a friend with 9 fingers. He's into martial arts so we call him "9 fingers of death". So even if it's too late you could still end up with a cool nickname!

most of the time they will not stitch fingers just because you move them around to much and will pull the stitches out. the longest you can wait to get stitches at all is 24 hours but it is best to get them with in 12 hours of the time of the injury

What kind of a cut is this? It must be very serious.

If you think you need stitches, don't wait. Get them as soon as you can. I'd need to see the cut or know more about it to tell you how long you probably CAN wait, if there's an issue with getting to a medical facility, but I'm no professional anyway. So I can offer just this - don't wait.

You have a 4 hour window to get stitches. any longer than that they will not sew it up due to the possibility of too many germs in the area now and infection risk is too great.

If it is a bad cut, and bleeding bad, I would go now. Before I bled to death. If you got the bleeding stopped, put a bandaid on it and keep it clean. You will be fine. But a bad cut should not wait.
