Why isn't Don Mattingly, Jim Rice, Alan Trammell, Dwight Evans, Ron Santo, Gil Hodges, Bert Blyleven, Lou Whittaker, Jack Morris, and about 15 others not in the hall of fame? Yes, Bags is a hall of famer but like these other guys I've mentioned he might have to rely on the veterans committee to support his entry. The baseball writers need to review "in house" and start taking away voting privileges from a good number of their members. They are out of touch with the game and have been for years. Many are retired and haven't watched a major league game in years.

Bags was one of the best defensive first basemen of all time. His .993 fielding percentage certainly proves that. 449 HR's and if not for the shoulder injury he would surely have joined the 500 HR club. A .297 life time batting average is impressive as well. Now it's up to the baseball writers and most likely the veterans committee to send him to Cooperstown.

I find it funny how 5 people who answered this question that said "no" didn't even give a reason.

Many of you seem to forget that Jeff Bagwell shined even while being in the best pitcher's park for the first 10 years of his career. If not for the Astrodome and his late shoulder injury, he would have gotten 500 HRs easily.

And since when do you have to have 500 homeruns to even be considered for the hall? Out of all the 1B hall of famers, 4 have 500+ and only 1 has a .300+ batting average.

He was an All-Star for 4 years and led the astros to the playoffs 6 out of 8 years.

He was stellar as both a defensive and a offensive first baseman, and should be rewarded for it.

Hell ya he's a Hall of Famer. The guy was a monster at the plate for years for that organization. He was an upstanding guy with alot of class and he was the face of the Astros (along with Biggio, who is deserving of HOF) and he was a VERY consistent baseball player for 12-13 years and you cannot ask for more out of a guy. Consistency is what everyone looks for and consistency at that high level is amazing. He may not be a first ballot, but he's def. a HOF one day

Statistically, if Bags goes in so does Cecil Fielder, Mattingly, Helton.

No. He was a good, solid player, but he was not a great one.
