setting up xbox live?

I have a dsl connection and I was wondering how to set it up.
Do i need to buy something to connect to the modem or something like that?

if you dont want to disconnect the modem from the pc all the time then you will have to buy a dsl router, what i do which get old quick is when i get ready to use xbox live i disconnect the modem from the pc and plug the ethernet cable to the xbox, give it time to make a connection and boom your on live
