Well, Just do the math.

I have a large house and several dogs. So, if I'm good, I'll shampoo 6 times a year. 120$ plus for a rental. If you plan
to shampoo about that often, then a 200$ machine that lasts
two or three years is OK. I reckon, they would last longer
if you were very gentle with them..and didn't have to clean up
much muck...but that is why you want to shampoo to begin with.

I've had two Hoovers and one Bissel. I like the Bissel better.
However, I've had to rig the soap dispenser spring valve to
continue working properly after about a year's use. Everything
is plastic, so once something breaks it is difficult to repair.

If there were a 500$ machine that would last me 5 to 10 years,
I'd buy it...but the money may be better spent just living with
the grime and hair and putting in tile in the most used rooms.

If you plan to use the 200$ machine just a few times a year, you might get 5 years out of it Just keep it clean...vacuum very
thoroughly before you attempt to shampoo.

(And the Dyson is pretty good for a house-full-of-pets vacuum
cleaner)

Oh, and you needn't use the expensive carpet shampoo. Just dilute some liquid laundry detergent. Fewer bottles to keep on
hand..

Don't waste your money.... be real, you are gonna shampoo your carpet MAYBE twice a year. You'll either spend a ton on a really good one worth it, or you'll pay too little which is still a lot of money on one that doesn't work so well. Just rent one when you need to Shampoo..... you'll save yourself a ton of money and much more frustration

The Rug Doctor is the same one you can rent at walmart and most grocery stores....I have rented it about 6 times over the last 5 years. It is only 25 to 30 to rent it and you can get the attachment for upholstery..... And I definitely agree with the diluted water with detergent. The shampoo that they sell for the Rug doctor is where they make their money.

the rug doctor is a carpet shampooer and i hear it is excellent---there are often infomercials for it on tv late at night, but it is fairly expensive, or so i hear--or you can call stanley steemer---they always have deals like get 3 areas cleaned for $99---my fiance's parents were wanting to get new carpet---they have pets and also white carpet--then stanley steemer came and cleaned and the carpet looks and feels brand new-----

p.s---you can rent the rug doctor.

I got a Bissell 3 or 4 years ago. But it's about pooped out now It was great while it was at its best.

I think my problem is, I loaned it to too many people, and they didn't take good care of it.
