There really is no "best". Several schools have excellent programs and are extremely well funded. Look for the number of papers published, universities with programs in you particular field of study, etc. Unfortunately, to really answer your question you need to do some legwork and research (I'm assuming since this will affect your life you want a solid answer). Simply looking at US and World News and picking a top 5 answer would be simplistic and a lousy way to make such an important decision.

Any school ranked in the top 50 will be good for the study of science. The best ones for science are MIT, Cal Tech, UC-Berkeley, Stanford, Duke and any of the Ivy League schools.

Virginia Tech has the most scientist and engineer alumni and it offers a broad range of science and engineering majors

That would be medical school . . . and there are lots,
including John Hopkins. As tuition can be much higher for out - of - state (non resident) people, you should look at the medical schools in your state.

A scientist is anyone who works in science. You will have to be more specific as to what field.
