The shape of an egg is oval shaped becuase if you think of it evolutionarily, laying eggs are easiest and most efficient when the eggs are oval, not sphere or any other shape.

The yolk is spherical because the surface tension between the yolk and egg white keeps it that way. The surface tension will always keep the yolk held together, and thus it is spherical.

Maybe the entire egg would be round if it were not squeezed out of a chicken. The egg may not be so fragile on the way through the chicken in comparison to the egg after coming out the way it does. The shell works like a protection for the inner contents. That's why the yoke stays round, but the shell "gives" a little bit
until it is safely been "delivered."

The oval has special properties, you may discover. It is exceptionally strong, tougher than a perfect ball. If you put a slight crack in the shell, it becomes very easy to break. That's one of the unique engineering properties of the oval. But the yoke is not required to be an oval; it's simpler to have been developed as a perfect sphere.

The oval shape of an egg allows to pack more substance (for the developping fetus). If it was round and had the same volume, the hen would need a huge A.. to lay it, or you have a bigger risk of it breaking inside the laying duct.. (sounds like a joke, but i'm serious)
As for why the yolk is round, it's beacuse of what another answerer said: Yolk has a lot of fat so it doesn't mix well with the white, adopting a round shape to reduce contact area.

ok see,
egg yolk and egg whitening are the oiginally zygote result
from the fertilization of ovum.
it is therefore considered as a cell and a cell has
actually a sphere shape.
after fertilization, the ovum is released.
..when it happened to pass through the oviducts, the shell glands there
secret the shell for the protection of an egg from the enviornmental effects or from bacterial attack.
......when this is egg with its shell is enforced to outside, the muscles of the oviduct contract behind the egg pushing it forward. The egg is still shapeable, so the back of the egg become pointy in order to get out.
thats the reason why the eggshell has a pointy end as compare to the egg yolk.

How do you know its a perfect sphere, you ever seen inside an egg before its cracked open?

eggs are not perfect sphere's because it is not a complete ball shape. but the answer you are looking for is because of gravity is pulling it equal that is why it is round.

eggs are only oval shaped because the shell calcifies very quicky while they are being layed. Whilst they are inside the chicken they are round.

Because it's one liquid suspended in another, so it forms the shape of least resistance - i.e. a sphere.
