A scientist studying what? Just worry about getting into the college with the best program for the field you're interested in. Scientist is a very generic term. It's kinda like saying "engineer" or "lawyer".

Stanford, Berkeley, and Cal Tech are all better than MIT.

There is one better in India but you practically have to be in Mensa or study 22 hrs a day, it is uber competitive.
