Put liquid laundry detergent on the stains and let it sit for at least an hour. Wash the jeans in warm not hot water, add 1/2 cup of Arm and Hammer along with the laundry detergent when you wash them.
Don't put any other clothes besides the jeans in the washer

use some heavy duty laundry soap and add 2 scoops of oxi clean to the washer and that should take it out---it did for me, but i am not sure what kind of grease you have or how long it has been on the jeans---oh, also wash the greasy jeans alone---i knew someone who forgot and just threw them in with the rest of the clothes and soon the whole load was ruined with grease!

you have to clean it as soon as the grease hits the pair of jeans. Simple green works, but so do other laundry stain removes like Shout.

Either soak the jeans in Sprite , 7Up, or any fizzy lemonade, for 30 mins before cleaning it in a washing machine, or pour cola all over that pair of pants just before washing it in a regular warm wash cycle.

Spray with 409 or Goo-Gone works well. I've also seen my grandmother use kerosene for the tar. Use kerosene with caution it is famable if you have a (antique) gas dryer. Wash with like color jeans. After wash shake out all the wrinkles before putting them in the dryer. Take out of dryer while still warm and smooth out the wrinkles. Smoothing out the wrinkles while warm saves you from ironing. Grandma taught me this.
