Aya you don't need a hotel. Just sleep in card board box outside any shop in London can't get any cheaper than that! lol

Hi,

When I was in London a reasonably priced hotel I stayed in located near Russell Square is the Royal National Hotel (www.imperialhotels.co.uk/royal.htm). It is literally about 3-5 minutes walk from the back entrance to the British Museum (if you walk slowly) and walking distance to the National Gallery (but if the weather is too nasty to walk you can catch the tube from Russell Square Station).

The hotel is clean and cheap and the base for a number of bus tour companies. The cost also includes breakfast. Best idea for a deal though is to search the hotel sites and ask them for pricing for the hotel. This way you will get the best deal.

If being close to the British Museum ... and short walking distance to the West End and Soho for great food. I recommend the Royal National.

:)

I stayed in The Generator hostel in London's Camden region, near the British Museum and University College London (another tourist site - Mahatma Gandhi and Ricky Gervais studied here :-D). It will cost about £12.50 per night, with a free breakfast thrown in.

They describe themselves thusly:
"We are the party king of all London Hostels, slap bang in the city centre with over 800 beds and our famous Generator bar. If you are looking to meet great people and have the hostel experience of a lifetime then look no further than Generator London Hostel.

We've fantastic, friendly staff, superb facilities to meet all your needs, and great value prices to suit your budget. We know that London is expensive so unlike many other London hostels we give you free "all you can eat” breakfast, free bed linen, free towels, plus £1 a pint happy hour in our bar from 6pm-9pm every night of the week.

If you are a backpacker looking for budget accommodation, somewhere with a party atmosphere, but also a great nights sleep, without breaking the bank then look no further that the Generator Hostel London!"

I say the bar is small and sterile (but clean and safe, at least). And the building is nice and quiet throughout - I certainly wouldn't have thought it had 800 beds!

Have a look at the Offical London website http://www.visitlondon.com/ as they always seem to offer discounted hotel rooms. The Smooth Hound Sstem http://www.smoothhound.co.uk/ listed guesthouses around the UK including London. The Youth Hostel Association http://www.yha.org.uk/ has several youth hostels in London.

The deals go quickly, so as soon as you get their promotional email, book.

The best places are hostels or Bed & Breakfast accommodation. London is not very cheap. East London is a cheap area.

There is a hotel near Buckingham Palace called Jolly St Ermines. It seems reasonably priced. There is free breakfast daily and it is right near the sights. Taxis go by there all day long and will take you everywhere you want to go.

I stayed in this hotel. It is small, not that expensive, clean, basic, but very conveniently located, decent place, quiet inside... You can choose if you want to have meals or not, but trust me, you do not need to, coz there are lots of restaurants around.
