because the light travels in a straight line it can not bend around corners and enter our eyes. We therefore cannot see objects that are not in our line of sight. Simple.

The only reason we see any object is because of the reflection of light on it. If an object is around a corner or has a solid object in front of it there would be no reflecting light ,consequently no visual contact.
The light that is given off by the sun gives general illumination and lets reflected light ( of the object) reach our eyes. All this said the obvious reason we can't see around corners is of course the object that forms the corner is in the way of our sight. Not withstanding if you looked around a corner with a reflecting devise ( mirror) provided a light was shinning on things beyond the corner you would see around the corner.
