Hahaha, two hours? It takes waaay longer than that for a real good game. My friends and I played until 6 in the morning one time and we still didn't finish. Even so, Monopoly is one of my favorite games. I like buying all the properties I can and then bartering for the ones I want that others have because they want the ones I have. I always make sure I get the better deal.

It's a very common complaint. Monopoly CAN take ages - BUT most of the time it shouldn't.
Make sure you are using the official rules - they can be found on the Monopoly website. In particular, note that there is no jackpot for Free Parking.
The Tournament Rules use a 1.5 hour time limit which makes for a very good game, and often at the end of 1.5 hours, the player with the most assets is in a strong winning position anyway.
If you play the official rules, and your game is still taking ages, then it's likely that you are not aggressive enough in your trading and building. The longer you leave trading and building, the more money that flows into the game from passing Go, meaning it will take longer for one player to get all the money. Eg, as soon as you have two Reds and one Orange, and they have one Red and two Oranges, there is really no compelling reason not to do a straight swap (as long as you both have roughtly equal cash and assets), especially if no-one else can build houses yet.

I looked up gayness in the dictionary, and sure enough, there was a picture of monopoly. Monopoly is considered a 'roll and move' game. You don't really have any control over where your pawn lands so being able to buy property, and whether or not you land on other peoples property is 100% random. There is no skill involved. Add that to the fact that most people refuse to trade unless they get more than they give and you have pretty much defined gayness.
Real strategy games offer you choices of movement, and have multiple paths to victory. Chess is a well known example as is Go, but others include Puerto Rico, Caylus, and Tigris & Euprates. All of these games require skill to play, and the method of winning changes from one game to the next, and they don't rely on random die rolls to determine a winner. This is the opposite of gayness.

Yeah, it takes about two hours if you play by the official rules, or much longer if you don't. That doesn't make it "gaynes" though--it's one of the all-time greats in modern board games (yeah, it's over 70 years old, but I consider the classics to be games like chess, checkers, and backgammon).

well it depends on who is playing... We have played monopoly in as little as 1hr 30 minutes and we started with 4 people and the other 3 went bankrupt in that time.. We also have played for 3-4 hours and we even had a game go on for 2 weeks, over christmas break a few years ago.. Soit all depends on who is playing and how you play I would say..

I agree, way longer than 2 hours, and although it is fun, it is nearly impossible for it to end fun because you're tired and only one person owns the whole board while the others mortgage everything they have to try to keep up. Basically yes, it is gay, but in both senses (happiness and retarded)
