It seems to me that no matter what I order, I never get a complete and/or correct order. I may order a hamburger with no onions and get a ton of pickles and no lettuce. Or I ask for original style chicken breasts and get crucnhy... I may order a fish sandwich, medium fries and a diet coke and get a two piece order of fish, tater tots and a Dr. Pepper. Not to mention there is no greeting and no thank you after I pay. What is this world coming to? Why don't people care any more about the service or quality of their work?

I wasn't going to answer this until I started reading all the answers you have recieved already. Speaking from many years of working/managing in fast food resturaunts with drive-thru's I feel compelled to defend them and try to answer your question!

My first instinct is to inquire on HOW you order your food. You must speak clearly, and be consise on how you want your sandwich...
Watch the line in front of you. If there is a "pull-out" someone who orders then leaves the line for what ever reason make sure you double check your order...the crew can't always see people leave the line and if they don't know, it could mess up many orders as they are usually packed in the order in which they are recieved.
You should always keep your order small and simple. Drive-thru's were designed to speed the simple orders along....such as a combo meal, or a single drink or fry etc. They were not designed for large orders (food for you and 4 of your close friends) if you are going to make such an order do yourself and the crew a favor and go inside...it will help everyone and ensure that you get better service in the long run. And it won't take any longer to recieve your order...we have the same time standards to acheive at the front counter as we do in the drive-thru.
Contrary to popular belief the people that crew fast food resturaunts are smart, funny, caring, and damn hard workers that more than earn their wages! They do want to give you a great product. They come in to work early, stay late, come in on their days off if needed and bust their behinds for a lot of people that treat them with little to no respect because they don't have a "real" job.
If you have a problem you should always tell the manager in a calm, professional manner. They will be glad to make it right! And if it is a continual problem they will find out who, what, when and where and correct it. Accidents will happen...they happen at every resturaunt, office, bank and retail store in the world...people are people and not perfact!
As far as receiving a greeting and a parting phrase...you should get one everytime...but then again...are you saying hi and thank you to all the people you deal with on a daily basis?

Fast food is a thankless job. Yet everyone wants their order to be perfact each and every time. That is the goal. And they (corporations) spend millions of dollars on develpment to try to make it happen. But as long as there are people involved in the taking and the giving it will never happen. Sorry you seem to have so many problems at the places near you...I hope after reading this you will approach the managers at the units involved and give them a chance to improve and make things right for you. Forgive any misspellings, my spell check isn't working...and have a Great Holiday!!

To me this is the worst. You look forward to a meal
and you bring it all the way home and then can not
stomach it. :((( Why bother

They don't care. And if you get take out or drive thru you are gone before you notice. Phone the manager and complain and keep track of dates and times and what went wrong. Then
the manager can do something about it. At least brake it down to a shift. Or put up with it or go some where else. Good luck.

we must not loose sight here, staff at Fast food joints are Young in General some just out of nappies, but had it not been for these people you wouldn't be able Togo to a fast food cold serving so called restaurant. I gave up going to these places after getting wrong orders, it doesn't matter whether its drive thru or if you go inside, i found that if i went inside the order came cold and had to be returned,i think these places need to have a separate queue for folk to take back the slop. not wanting to offend anyone, but if the UKs largest burger retailer spent more money on Training and Quality of the food served , rather than re-building the Outlets , Eating it would be so much better. oh and please THEY ARE NOT A RESTAURANT.

Yeah the restaurant well fast food industry sucks...They hire just about anyone and you can tell by the service!
It may take a bit longer but go in and order to-go. That way you can check the food right there in front of them!!
My husband would get all the way home and then storm back but it's much easier to do it there!!!!
People are careless these days unfortunately!

1. Sit at the window and check your order. If they ask you what you are waiting, explain that you are checking the order as it is often wrong. That'll get the attention of management!

2. Ask if they have a feedback form. If they do, fill it in and return it. It might help. If they don't have feedback form - this is the best service you are going to get...go to another restaurant.

The reason is because the people doing your service probably don't speak the same language as you. This is what I do:
Check the the food to see if it's what you ordered and if not you put your car in park and demand that they give you what you ordered and your not moving until you get what you want. Then they know not to mess up your order a second time and you get what you want. Try it, it worked for me.

Sorry you always have that experience. Start checking your order before you even pull away from the window and also, to answer your question, honestly, I think in large part, it's because most fast food places only pay minimum wage, and as they say, "you get what you pay for". Not only that, but many of the workers are school aged....the "X" generation who typically feel as though the world owes them something, because the world DOES after all "pay" them alot.

Call and complain to the manager or corporate office, they will see to it that you are satisified, and either replace your order for a correct order or send you coupons in the mail. This is why we do not eat fast food very often along with other reasons. Good Luck.

There are 2 reasons :-

1. McDonalds pay just over the minimum wage, hence you're not going to get the sharpest tools in the box serving you.

2. You'll be a long way away before you realise you got done over, and they know only too well you wont bother going back.
