The game was for the Atari Computer... not sure of the model. The game I played was on a floppy disk. You could pick from an extensive list of characters and use them to complete quests, all from Greek Mythology. The map represented lands throughout the ancient mediterranean. It might also have been called Revenge of Hercules.

I've searched for it online, but only found one vague reference of it at a blog. Does anyone know of a web site or somewhere I can get more info or maybe screenshots on the game? I played it for hours and hours with my buddy when we were kids, but now I can barely remember it...

You were close on the name of the game. It was actually marketed as the "Return of Heracles" (the Greek name for Hercules) and other spelling variations. It was made for the apple II and ported to the commodore 64. There might be a port for the atari, I do not know for sure.

I didn't find many pics for the game, but you might be able to download an emulator and play this ancient gem ^_^.
