It worked before, so I know it doesn't have to do with the usb port. One day, I restoreed (formatted) my ipod and ever since, my ipod wouldn't show up. I don't think the battery is the problem because it has been plugged in my computer for over 3 hours and all I see is the apple logo on the screen and the screen lights up often. I tried installing, uninstalling and reinstalling the ipod updater and itunes. I downloaded and installed the latest itunes, and still when I unplug and plug in my ipod, nothing happens. My other usb devices show up immediately after it is plugged in. I went to apple.com and read everything about the 5 R's or whatever. I tried pressing the select button and the menu button simultaneously to reset it, I tried the hold switch a few times. I even formatted my hardrive and reinstalled my windows xp and still nothing. When i open my iPod updater, on the window it says, "plug in an ipod to update it", but nothing happens when plugged in.

I don't want to call tech support @ apple.com or go to an apple store, cause it will cost money. I wish to know how to fix it on my own, please.
