I know exactly what you mean. I think cameras should be installed in the restuarants to ensure that there is cleaniness. But you know another thing is service isn't what it used to be. There are so many rude people who are either working the counters or drive thrus. I do remember that when I worked in a restuarant, I saw my boss pick up a piece of hamburger meat that fell on the floor and put it back on the grill because he stated that it's about the money and the hot grill will get rid of the bacteria. I was seventeen then. But I also witness him picking up chicken off the floor and putting it into the fryer with the same excuse. I was only seventeen then. But if I saw it now I would report it.

Your grocery store could be buying from the same food wholesalers that Taco Bell or Olive Garden does, so it really doesn't make much difference if you eat out or at home. You only hear about the people that get sick eating out because it effects more people at one time from the same place and they naturally sue, so that makes news. If the same amount of people get sick from food from various grocery stores spread out over a large area, you would probably never hear about it.

It's concerning because it's not always the food preparer's fault. The E. coli outbreak in spinach recently had to do with the grower. E coli can infiltrate the root system of plants and actually grow inside the plant. It's a facultative anaerobe, i.e., it doesn't need oxygen to grow. No matter how well the spinach was washed, the E. coli would still be present. We'll have to wait and see what the bug is for Olive Garden.

I do worry about how my food is prepared. I like to eat organic, no meat or
cheese. Needless to say I don't eat out often. Maybe we should all think
about eating at home. We would probably all be healthier for it.

I go in spurts and am more concerned with how restaurants handle my food than with any agricultural accidents They figure, too, but not as strongly as with people's habits in the kitchen!
