Everyone knows in my firm that we are all underpaid. I'm getting closer to my annual review and I'm going to ask for a raise. I'm organizing a bunch of documents with information about my performance, goals accomplished, etc and I want to include how much other firms pay for my position in my city? Is there any way on how you can find out the general range for your position in your city? Any other ideas of what should I include will be very much appreciate it. Thanks for any helpful information.Happy Holidays!

The salary/remuneration for a particular job is the market value for a particular profession and designation at the city/town where the office is located. Job postings at websites like Monster, Yahoo HotJobs and Careerbuilder carry information about salaries. The Govt Dept of Labor, (www.bls.gov) Bureau of statistics has information about median salaries for different professions and details of additional compensation offered. Other online resources are salary.com and payscale. Your salary will also depend on your educational qualification and how you handle your career. Call a temp agency. Tell them everything you do. They should be able to give you a price range. Also, don't ask for too high of a raise. Cost of living increase was 3% so I wouldn't ask too much more than that - 4 or 5% maybe. If you find out others are being paid a lot more, plan to ask for a raise yearly until you hit the going rate. Good luck to you.

Many of the job sites (e.g. Monster, etc) have salary analyzers. You just need to figure out the level of the position and it will give you a salary report.
