Refuse to watch them, write letters to the stations that show them.

Any decent parent monitors what their children watch on TV. If you have cable, that's why they provide parental locks. The way to combat reality is generally to ignore it, and that's the only recourse you have. You really are seeking to combat reality, but that is up to you and your family, not me. Like it or not gays exist everywhere in our society. They are cops, teachers, doctors, secretaries, etc. Most people have no clue how many gays they have worked with, or who have treated them in ERs and hospitals, or responded to a 911 call to save someones life. The fact is that gays are a part of our every day society and gay characters on TV shows reflect that.

I don't quite get the homoEROTIC part of your question. What show is serving that up these days? I know that The L Word, etc. do this, and more power to them in my opinion, but surely your children don't have run of anything they wish to watch on Showtime or HBO. You will always be free to simply turn that channel and police your children's viewing. If that's not enough for you then are you advocating censorship and if so, by who? Who will decide what it's okay for American adults to watch? You? Not in my lifetime.

Don't bother writing the stations - they won't care. Write to the advertisers and send a copy to the station.

Since most of TV is absolute crap these days, my only other suggestion is to throw the damned thing away. It would be impossible to shield your child from things you don't want them to see - if it's not the program itself that's nasty, it's the commercials. A friend of mine's son just hates the penile enhancement commercials - they embarrass the hell out of him. Pretty pathetic when a kid thinks there's something wrong with showing those types of commercials during prime-time, but the powers that be in Hollywood don't give a rats butt. Since liberals always insist that it's conservatives ruining the country, does this mean that the only people in Hollywood who AREN'T liberal are the ones who put this crap out? Hardly.

Funny, isn't it, how most of Hollywood is liberal and they spend three and a half years insisting they have little to no influence over anyone, and six months or so before a presidential election telling us how to vote....

My friend, you can not. I used to be disgusted and then I found out it was VERY deliberate. Only allow channels such as the history channel and other honorable channels. Others should be off limits. Also, get them involved in good healthy activities. Encourage them to play outside and if you have a second, go outside together with them. Eat dinner together and set aside a specific time to do homework every night. Also, encouraging them to take up musical instruments is good.

Don't let your kids watch them.

Monitor the programs your kids like and if there's anything you find inappropriate, don't let them watch it.

Also, if you have digital cable, you can set up a rating block or even individual shows.

Be responsible for your viewing habits. If you don't want to watch it, then don't. Same for your kids. But don't try to sensor TV for the rest of us.

Quit letting the television babysit your children and take care of them yourself.

What shows are you talking about, anyway?
