Fear of competition can have many elements to it...
there is the element of winning and having all the attention focussed on you and then of course the followup of expectation that you will always win...
there is the element of fear of losing and feeling inadequate or clumsy...
there is the element of being somewhere in the middle of the pack and not having any of the attention....and no recognition for how hard you have worked to compete..
competition is not an easy think to live with and many people choose to avoid competition...and that is a reasonable response..
you can learn to overcome your fear with the help of a counsellor.. if you have access to a sports therapist they can offer you specialised counselling for this particular area... otherwise most counsellors will be able to helpto some degree..
Best of Luck with Life..

Get to the root cause of the fear. You're more likely afraid of losing, getting hurt, or looking awkward. Probably all 3 will occur if any, but that doesn't matter because it's expected. Just remember: when you lose, do it gracefully. Consider what it is that you've really lost? My point is that there's nothing to really lose except a little pride. Just swallow it before hand.
Like in a video game, when you die... there's always a continue button and/or rematches. In sports, losing is expected, and you as a person will still be breathinig (unless you're playing rugby against the Dept. of Corrections team, then it's 50/50 whether or not you'll live).
Also ask yourself why you want to play sports. Does it seem fun? If so, just do it, but you should't feel compelled to do something you don't want to do.

Because every one has in fear of public humiliation. Thus making them not want to compete. Maybe afraid of disappointing a parent or friends. Even a coach. It is an inbred feeling, the only way to overcome it is to go out and try. Yes we ALL fail at times. It makes us stronger, whether we think it will or not. Think positive and Good Luck.

Because you are afraid of failure. If you don't compete, you can't fail, right? Who are you kidding, you are "failing yourself" even more if you don't compete. You are putting yourself through more turmoil by being afraid, than if you go out there, put your best foot forward, compete, and have fun. Life isn't always about winning. Have fun!

You may not really be afraid; you might just not have any deep seated need to be first or best at things. Not everyone is competitive. Is competition really on your top ten list? Maybe you should just do what you enjoy the way you enjoy it.

Its completely normal. Fear either motivates you or it doesnt. Overcoming your fear is what leads to greatness.
Do things that will build your confidence. Learn from those better around you, teach those who are not.
Dont be arrogant....arrogance is a sign of weakness. Do your best and have fun.

You are afraid of the potential for let down, the way to get over it. Visualize the world suffering for not getting to see you perform! They don't know how good you can be! Go for it, and good luck!!!

Fear is like a road block. You can either go around it,under it ,over it or blow it away with a Shotgun & then move on.Just do it or you'll never stop thinking " What If ? "
