As an example - some of my son's so called friends come over just to play the video games and do other things they want to do. If my son suggests they play something else, the other kids whine and go home.
Basicly, if people are around you because of what they can get from you, they are not true friends.

You can't tell all the time. Because you could be friends with someone for years, and then they could just betray you one day. But the key is, show how much of a good friend you are, and those who appreciate will be true friends, and those who don't, they'll have to answer to karma!

They are the ones who stand by you during your hardest times, the ones who tell you the truth, and the ones who say what needs to be said when you are making a bad decision. True friends will accept you the way you are and are there to help you grow.

True friends are there for you always whether or not it's convenient for them. Of course sometimes they have to be away, which is natural, but once the two of you are together things fall back together like no time passed at all.

True friends are there for you whenever you need them. They'll tell you when you're screwing up, they'll tell you off when you need telling. If you can count on them through good and bad, they are a real friend, if not, they're just an associate.

Get in a rough situation in your life and see how few the people will still be your friend.(the ones still with you are probably your true friends).
