I have owned a Tivo in some form since they started building them in the late 90's and they still run great. I have a 14 hour, 60 hour series 1 and a dual tuner 80 hour tivo 2.
If you have a computer network, the Tivo will work with your computer to allow access to your music and pictures via the TV.
I don't have HD so I can't speak for the Series 3, But I have been happy with my Tivos.
Check out the Tivo community forum for pros and cons from other users. But for me 5 stars out of 5.
