I’m taking apart an old table to refinish it. How do I get the glued parts apart?

How old is it?Any idea?If it was made before the mid to late 60's it was probably made with hide glue.Hot water will melt hide glue very well.I have used hot towels or cloths applied directly to the joint to help loosen a joint.Make it as hot as you can get it and make the cloth damp enough to get plenty of moisture generated. If your table is finished with shellac,it's probably glued with hide glue.Any other glues are really hard to dissolve. They are made like that.If it's a PVA glue(yellow carpenters glue)there is a product called De-Glue Goo that will dissolve those types of glue but,you have to be able to get it directly on the glue. That's hard to do on a tight fitting glue joint.I find i usually have to cut open or physically break glue joints to get them apart.Good Luck!

Check the hardware store for glue softener or glue remover

Rubbing alcolhol disolves glue. You could try that, and it will not hurt the wood.
