I would tell that person that America has no culture of its own. Its an assimilation of the cultures of all the immigrants of this country, both past and present. I would then refer him to the article 100% American, its talks about diffusion of all cultures into ours.....I would presume that after reading that article he wouldn't feel so strongly about not needing other cultures.
The ignorance that fills our society disgusts me

Pure nationalism, to the extreme. Is the speaker aware of the consequences of such a statement? Obviously not. The speaker needs to go study abroad with a good college, open the glued-shut eyes and truly feel with the heart. A good dose of being alone in another country, without friends, family, a way to get home or army support would also do the trick, I think.

We are Americans. It is in our best interest to become familiar with other cultures so that we don't offend people when we travel to their countries. At the same time, there is no need for us to change our common culture. We have certain things in common. The idea that we should change our culture because someone coming here might be offended is wrong.

Ok pop, though you don't look old enough, i'm not going to blame you for what someone else said but culture is changing. American culture was dominant but japanese culture seems to be very strong. I never liked Disney, too mamby pamby, but i do like manga. Clint Eastwood has just directed a japanese movie and Hollywood has been remaking old French films and Japanese films. If this guy 'coolray44' believes not needing other cultures ask him if he liked the Magnificent Seven. Japanese i believe!

Americans came from every country in this world. Very few "Native Americans" remain here. I think that any culture is worthy of exploring. It allows each of us to explore his/her roots and history. Their history is Our history! I believe that it is great to explore other cultural foods and ideas. If you only wanted to know "OUR CULTURE" maybe we should send all of the medical advances of Other Nations, the Atomic Energy Ideas that came as a result of Nazi German opression, wartime advances that came as a result of WW1 and the ensuing medical advances, return this country back to its Indian heritage,... Do you see what I mean? We could carry this on and on to the point of idiocy. I LOVE AMERICA and Our rights are absolutely the best thing about this country. We owe a great deal of those freedoms to our men and women that came here to escape opression of one type or another. Be PROUD of this country but DO NOT forget our heritage either! Have a great holiday.

It sounds ridiculous to me. A mixture of cultures is what makes life so interesting and more tasteful and colorful, so to say. You can't say being American is a culture really persay, because living in America is so diverse with so many different races and cultures mixed together, so that would have to be an untrue statment, even if Americans do say that.

Biased.
Fortunately I am the exact opposite. I love the USA, don't get me wrong, I but I have an undescribable desire to learn about other religions, traditions, cultures, languages, and lifestyles. I love that stuff. It's fun to learn about that kind of stuff and it also makes you more accepting of the world around you.
