Well I think he should be happy you are even seeing him for the holidays! If he is that bad he could have sent you on your way saying you would never see him again until he gets his act together. BUT since you are really thinking of getting him something, maybe a ride to the nearest AA meeting! Go with him. Maybe he would go if you went with him and maybe it would help you out to get some venting out!

You should try to put together a photo album of his and your life...try bringing him back to the human race. Or take him to a children's hospital and hand out gifts to the terminally ill children. Sounds like he needs to ponder how blessed he actually is.....because he has a daughter such as you.
