I don't think Harry Potter books should be banned from libraries because they teach children important lessons and they help you develop a love for reading. Before Harry Potter I read books once in a while, mostly when it was required but after I finished the three books I fell in love with literature and could not get enough of the written word. And it all began with Harry Potter. Harry Potter forced me to imagine the scenery and to look beyond the words. It took me on a journey that I shall never forget. I think that it is important to allow children this same experience. Harry Potter books should not be banned because they are as important as books such as Peter Rabbitt or other children books. They teach important values such as the importance of friendship and the importance of never giving up no matter how many odds are against you.

OK dude just because you're obviously not a Harry Potter fan doesn't mean someone else won't find them useful!!! I mean have you even read the books? Theres only 6 and yeah they're long, but I mean, there's longer books out there and you don't say they're "taking up valuable space"!!!! Try thinking about someone other than yourself!!

I don't think that they should only because they're so popular. After all, that is the point of a library. There are other authors and series which take up more space than Harry Potter. I mean, look at Terry Pratchett.

No. Unlike what some people think, it does not promote bad behaviours or thinking among children. Anyone who's read it would know that it tells story about good and evil. About the choice to be good or otherwise. Harry Potter is definitely a good character who tries his best to fight the evil side. He cares for his friends and he's brave. Though sometimes he's not entirely prefect. He copies homework from Hermione, thinking of skiving off somtimes, but WHO DOESN'T? Harry Potter is a human. No human is perfect. What important is, he tells children that there're good and evil in this world, and we should choose the good side. Talking about witchcraft and wizardry... there're dozens and dozens of books about them in the bookstores and libraries, why people only complain about Harry Potter? Besides, undeniably, these books encourage children to read. From my personal experience, this is absolutely true.
Of course I'm not saying that because I think they're good so others should like them, too. If you think it's not good, then don't read it. Why do people have to ask for the books to be removed from library? Why do people have to argue non-stop on this topic? There should be some mutual respect among readers. We respect each other's favourite books.

Absolutely not! They're wonderful books and have gotten many kids to start reading over the years. They definitely need to stay. However, you may need to be banned from the library... you're taking up too much valuable space, you know.

That's got to be the worst argument I've ever heard for banning Harry Potter.
The proper way to weed a library collection is to remove books 20 years or older that have not been checked out in at least five years. You do not remove popular books unless they are badly deteriorated. Even then, you want to replace them.

No book should ever be banned. If Harry Potter gets children reading, then there should be *multiple* copies in the library.

I work as a Security Officer at a Magistrates Courthouse in East Anglia. You ask, what has this to do with Harry Potter?
The answer is simple. The bulk of the people who turn up for Youth Court ( Adults-parents as well as well as their children), turn up without a book or anything else to occupy their attention whilst they wait for up to 5 hours for their case to be heard. All they have is the 'Sun', which does not demand very much in the realms of attention.
If Harry Potter can get children reading, then Ms Rowling deserves every penny she has earned. Boredom, within children, leads to crime. Writers - keep it up. Make the book rival the ipod; make the book become 'wicked'. I hope to see cases where people are mugged for books, rather than their mind-numbing mobile phones. I can then, at least, suggest that the Magistrates "throw the book at them". Books will do them some good.

Absolutely not... Everyone needs a little fantasy in their lives. Some people get their fantasy by going to the Casino, (making a bet against odds, in HOPE of winning). Others by role playing through games, or OTHER means... Others through books, reading about something that is "Off the wall", or at least isn't likely to happen.
You may think it is trash, but one mans trash is another mans treasure...
Say you are someone who gambles... would you like it if someone said "You can't gamble anymore because all you are doing is wasting your money." Yes I think there is no reason to gamble, (personally), but this is a free country to do as you please within reason of course...
I take it that you like to read, or you wouldn't be complaining about this whole thing... Why should it matter if the books are there or not? I do believe that libraries supply books to read, and usually go with the ones that are in demand, along with a backlog of classics. So there is plenty of room for you "Precious" books.

At least they encourage people to visit the library. If they remove the Harry Potter, they should definitely remove the Mills and Boone that seem to take up half the shelving in my local. Annoy the grandmothers as well as the kiddies!
