My 7 month old son has diaper rash...I know the best remedy is to let him go without a diaper to air out the rash. I don't like using any of the creams(desitin, balmex...)...I've heard Milk of Magnesia helps? Any other suggestions?

Oh my god, milk of magnesia is a LAXATIVE! Whoever told you this was either joking or completely insane. It will give your baby diarrhea extremely bad, which will in turn make the rash worse by having acidy poop in his diaper all the time. Change the baby every two hours during the day regardless of if he is soaked or poopy, and try to bath him and let his bottom soak in the warm water. This will help his sore bumb, and letting him air out really is the best! Try putting a soaker pad on the ground and letting him play naked for a while.

Why don't you like the creams?

If it's an environmental or health thing, I'd suggest Boudreaux's Butt Paste (NOT Bourdros or however that other person spelled it). The ingredients (looking at my tube) are Balsam, Castor Oil, Mineral Oil, and Paraffin. The only 'medical' ingredient is Zinc Oxide ... are you okay with that?

It's meant for diaper rash, but it works on nearly any skin irritation or cracking.

Seriously. It works wonders. My nephew's diaper rash nearly disappeared overnight.

Otherwise, milk of magnesia does help (so I've heard), but I've also used aloe vera gel before when we didn't have the Butt Paste. I did leave the diaper off for a while after applying it, but once it was dry I put it back on (because he was definitely *not* potty trained yet ... not even close). That worked within a few days.

Hope one of those options helps.

What is wrong w/ diaper rash cream? How would you like having a diaper rash and the only thing you could do is air it out? THink of their comfort, b/c I imagine diaper rash is very annoying.

I have 3 boys, i LOVE desitin as well as Bourdreaus butt paste...if you want more natural go w/ the latter. I have heard it is all natural and even safe enough to use on lips. It is found anywhere and works wonders!

There is nothing wrong with Diaper Cream. Bourdreaus butt paste is really good and all natural. Milk of Magnesia is suppose to be good (poured on the rash not ingested) and so is cornstarch and vaseline. Here is a site with some other natural remedies from other mommies:

Balmex works good, The reason they say malox is because it does work topically on mucas membranes it coats the sores. There is a mixture that they use for bed sores that has malox in it, but just that alone will not work. They also use malox in a mouth wash for people who have mouthsores. Aids, cancer
Just use cream, there is nothing wrong with them. Balmex works well and is recommended by many pediatricians. If the rash is not getting better please bring your little on to the doctor it can be worse, like yeast or an infection.
good luck

Petroleum jelly is the best thing to use to prevent diaper rash. use it each and every time you change the baby. Also do not let the baby sit in a wet diaper for long- this will of course irritate him. I have been doing this for my baby for almost 5 months and luckily he has never had diaper rash so far. Good luck.

Milk of Magnesia makes your baby boo boo. It does nothing for a diaper rash. I'm sorry but you gotta use the creams, they do work. My baby had a diaper rash and the creams work just fine. Or if you don't wanna use cream, you can use vaseline, but use the cream, it works better and faster.

no other suggestion other than airing out. my daughter always had diaper rash too, and the creams never helped only made it messy. She LOVED being naked though, still does actually.. oh! corn starch! that worked WONDERS on her diaper rashed. kept it dry and could even use it at night time while she wore her diaper.

I'm not sure why you wouldn't use a cream? It's the best thing for your child, personal opinion aside.

I use Boudreaux's Butt Paste for my son (11 months). He's never had a diaper rash...
