Buy him the WOW Collectible card game. Great for several reasons...1) It's another game that he can learn to play, based on WOW. 2) There are rare cards that could get him in-game items (if he is lucky enough to get one). 3) It's a nice collector's item for a WOW fan. 4) It has the potential to be a good investment, as the first set has come out. Cards in the first set of Magic: The Gathering can sell for several hundred dollars for a single card! 10 years down the road, if WOW card game has made a hit, he could have a goldmine on his hands.

I play quite often but even for the casual player, some of the gear available is hilarious: http://www.jinx.com/blizzard/holidayrelease.htm. Also, something great for all WoW players is this awesome atlas with detailed maps, flight/boat path info, info on NPC's, rare mobs, and crafting. http://www.amazon.com/WarCraft-Official-Strategy-Guides-Bradygames/dp/0744004411/sr=8-2/qid=1166219683/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/105-2357386-3526834?ie=UTF8&s=books
