I've never heard them being referred to as creamed potatoes. I prefer mashed.

To me
Mashed potatoes are mashed & lumpy
Creamed potatoes I use a mixer and make them smooth
I like all potatoes.

mashed poatoes are different than creamed potatoes, I'll fixed creamed when I fix a meatloaf or fried cod for supper, when theres gravy, then do mashed and baked, are ok, if I'm grilling outside.
