No, it's not Fred! It's the one's you generally see everywhere at Christmas with an orangie coloured berry on it? I'm not very good with plants so need to know what it is so I can research how to take tlc of it ... at least until my boss has seen it at least once in good condition!

It's a Solanum, aka winter or Christmas Cherry. Don't put it near a gas fire - it kills 'em!

Holly? Christmas cactus? Jerusalem cherry? Poinsettia?

Try a Google image search on each of the above, and see if you recognize it. It's hard to know what it is from your description.

Poinsetta, they don't usually last long anyway. I think they are seasonal, if that's what it really is.
