Saab is an aviation and defense company based in Sweden and founded in 1937 in Linköping. Its name was an acronym for "Svenska Aeroplan AB," where "AB" stands for "aktiebolaget" ("limited company"), thus written as 'SAAB'. Since the changes in company ownership in the 1990s, the company name is now Saab AB.
Originally manufacturing airplanes, the company sought ways in which to diversify its business and in the late 1940s started to manufacture Saab Automobiles. The automobile division was based in the city of Trollhättan. The first car was the Saab 92001 on June 10, 1947. The company soon developed a reputation for reliable automobiles, with a notable competition history. The cars had a name for safety and crash-resistance.
In the late 1950s SAAB ventured into the computer market with Datasaab.
In 1969 Saab merged with the truck maker Scania-Vabis, and between 1969 and 1995 the company was called Saab-Scania AB. General Motors bought 51 percent of the automobile division Saab Automobile in 1990, and acquired the rest a decade later

SAAB is the name of a Swedish manufacturer. They make, among other things, automobiles and jet planes.
Ugly cars? Maybe, but so ugly they're cool. In the seventies, they made a two stroke V-4 powered sports car that was way ahead of its time.

Gosh, a Swedish car manufacturer? Honestly, I don't know where all these people get their information from, but that is so wrong it's funny. Everyone knows SAAB is an abbreviation for Bolton Anna's famous line "Swedish Airses Are Better"

It's a swedish motor vehicle, originally dubbed by the English as the "Swedish Vauxhall". SAAB, for memory, might have made airplanes first, think they still have their finger in the aviation pie. They also make prime movers, they're renowned as being tough gutsy trucks. Hope this helps!

Still totally a fine car company. Just bought my youngest a 9-3 sedan and it's rated the safest car in its class, which is really what it's all about, isn't it?
