Why should any man or woman who commits a murder be given any sort of leniency when it comes to the death penalty? Their victims suffered; why shouldn't THEY? This question is a result of the recent execution of the man in Florida where it took 34 minutes for him to die. Who cares if he suffered? What about his victim that he killed 30 years ago? I think this criminal's execution was justified, even if it had taken him hours to die.

You know, if the 8th amendment outlaws cruel and unusual punishment, then in every state it should be illegal. Why isn't it? If the constitution governs the entire USA, then no individual state should be able to overrule its laws.

Capital Punishment fails to deter crime due to the allowance of an overly liberal Appelate Court.
I support the Death Penalty only when it is executed swiftly after a DNA Verification of Guilt to prevent wrongful execution which has happened frequently. And One, and only One Appeal.
Once these two requirements are met then I believe a Society should conduct the Death Penalty with a clear conscience.

The the 8th Amend. to the U.S. Constitution forbids cruel and unusual punishment. Generally speaking, the Bill of Rights (the first 10 amendments) constitute limitations on the government. The reason for this is due to the millions of people who have wrongfully died at the hands of governments. Over 100 million people have been murdered by governments in the 20th century alone. The only thing separating us from a similar fate are the constitutional guarantees. Unfortunately, sometimes these guarantees work towards the benefit of criminals and against victim rights.

I think all child molesters should be put to sleep! I am aware that would eliminate a big portion of the human race, but think about it, everyone left would be so scared they probably wouldn't do it. As for everyone else, if they committed the crime, are found guilty and are afraid of dying then I think they should be put to sleep. Let them feel the fear of dying just like their victims. If they are ready to die then I think we should keep them alive in jail. And when I say jail, I mean one meal a day, no t.v., no air conditioning, no gyms (only to make them bigger! That's stupid), no privileges AT ALL. Prisoners sometimes say, "they treat us like animals", well I think if they didn't act like animals they wouldn't be in there in the first place. I think they should work but only to pay for their clothes, food, facility expenses, and pay a small portion everyday to the victims or their families. That way everyday they are reminded of why they are in there! I do think the payment should go to a bank account where the victims are not reminded daily of the experience. That way they can deal with it on their own when they are ready. I really do agree the only time they should use the death penalty is when they know for sure they committed the crime. As for criminals who really didn't physically hurt anyone I think they should put them in a jail away from the hard-core criminals, but I still think they should work for everything.

I hear you, I don't feel sorry for anyone getting executed. They deserve everything and even more. Their victims suffered
because of their own horrific crime. Every person that killed
purposely deserves to die as slow as possibly and painfully
as can be, with out anyone giving a **** about this person. When
this person killed ,did they even think once, twice about his/her
victim, family, no they just went out and did it ,so why should we care. Your right we don't, So that is why I agree with you 100%
and I would not change how I feel about these kind of people.
And I am only talking about the ones that has been proven guilty
not the ones that they suspect, because in my book that is not
good enough. It's is the one that they know he/she did it for sure
and they have been caught red handed.

I think they should reserve the death penalty for the criminals that run the government like Dick Cheney and Rumsfeld and Bush. When it is found out how they orchestrated 9/11 and killed inventors who have made technologies so that cars could run on water like Stan Meyer then I think the death penalty is warranted. For the average Joe who may have murdered someone they should get life imprisonment with a chance for parole unless they are a serial murderer then death is required.

I think it's unfair to give the death penalty, reasons being that it's another murder taking place. It's not a human’s decision to kill another. If the death penalty is legal then shouldn’t murder be too? Also I think the worst kind of suffering is being in jail for life. That's basically your freedom right there. I think the death penalty should be banned and life in prison should be an alternative.

I have to agree with you. I have read a few articles on this today (I live in Florida) and am sickened at how often the VICTIMS name is not even mentioned. I wonder how long the victim have to suffer when he was being killed. Pretty sad.

1 - the Constitution prohibits cruel and unusual punishment. Torturing anyone, even if its a mass murderer, is against the law.

2 - death is a permanent punishment, in an imperfect system. there are dozens of cases of innocent people conivcted and killed by the state. at least with a penalty of life imprisonment, there is a chance for the falsely convicted to get their life back.

it really depends on the nature of the murder... yes if they made their victims suffer for hours than sure it's justified but what about when someone shoots you in the head and you die instantly you don't even really feel it so why make that person suffer more? the level of violence is the key issue here in my opinion....
